Coffee Planet is a real-life example of what can be achieved with a bit of discontent with the way things are. Proving there is always a better way of doing, saying or supplying something.
We're in a fun business and we try to enjoy what we do. But we also know that a lot of the hard graft goes on in the coffee fields and plantations around the world far away from us. Our contribution to improving the lives of the millions of coffee growers and workers is to trade directly with them wherever we can. We get involved in advising farmers on ways to improve their processes and quality so that they can get a premium price for their coffee. We pay the right price and get involved in projects to improve education and sanitation. We seek to enter into agreements to buy entire crops from small farmers at harvest time so that their income will be guaranteed for that year. We get a guaranteed supply and we know exactly where our beans have come from and how they have been picked, washed, bagged and shipped.
Our Roastmaster is the coffee expert. Part of his job is to travel the world building strong personal relationships with farmers in Africa, Central and South America and a growing list of other countries. Besides his fascination for all things coffee, he is also the Coffee Planet ambassador looking to help famers develop new direct markets rather than selling their crop into the local co-operative often for much lower prices. By sourcing directly from them we are cutting out the middleman and putting the true value of their work straight into their hands.
